Mary Hulbert, M.S., PCC, CPCC, founder and principal of True Directions,
is a business and life coach. She also delivers experiential team and leadership development programs to corporate
and not-for-profit clients. The thread running through Mary's varied professional life is her interest in helping
people to discover their strengths, to take risks, and to realize their potential, whether in a workplace, in a
boardroom, in a classroom, or on a ropes course.
Mary's background includes 10 years as a facilitator, trainer, and organizational development consultant, and
15 years in higher education administration and experiential and outdoor education. Mary holds a Professional
Certified Coach (PCC) designation through The International Coach Federation and is a Certified Professional
Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute. She completed her B.A. at Harvard University and earned
her Masters degree from Antioch New England's Graduate School, where she focused on both Environmental Studies
and Organization and Management. Mary, a member of the U.S. Squash Team in 1983, also brings experience as a
competitive athlete. She founded True Directions in 2002.
Mary lives western Massachusetts and loves spending time outdoors with her family and friends. She also
enjoys reading, developing new skills, traveling, and learning about other cultures.
Why choose Mary?
Fully Trained and Certified: Mary, who received her BA at Harvard, is a Professionally Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaches Federation and a Certified Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute.
Proven Track Record: Mary has helped over a hundred clients make important changes.
Consultant & Facilitator: Mary has ten years of experience facilitating team development programs for companies including IBM, Applebee's International, and Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program. Mary's M.S. degree included courses in Organization and Management.
Professional Athlete and Athletic Coach: Having been a member of the U.S. Women's Squash Team at the World Championships, Mary knows first-hand about peak performance, focus, drive, passion, pushing through perceived limits, and having fun. As a college athletic coach, she practiced and perfected the art of helping others to find and act from their best selves, to have fun while working hard, and to stay connected to, and fueled by, their passions.
Outdoor Leadership: Mary loves wild places and has led extended (up to 30 days) wilderness trips, for organizations including the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). On trips like these, navigating through potentially life-threatening hazards and terrain where it's not overly dramatic to say decisions and choices can be matters of life and death, Mary honed her leadership, teaching, and facilitation skills. She knows the transformative power of facing and moving through fears, of taking risks, and of being self-sufficient.
Distinctive Style: Mary has a passion for green living, outdoor adventures, and fun. Her signature is a mixture of enthusiastic support and no-nonsense honesty. She's direct, action-oriented, compassionate, and insightful.
